Dr. Josh Harmer is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement surgery joining the Idaho Clinic in 2025. Originally from South Jordan, Utah, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Physics and medical degree from the University of Utah.
He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he trained under global leaders in hip and knee replacement. He also pursued additional fellowship training in hip and knee replacement at Indiana University with Dr. Michael Meneghini, the president of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS).
Dr. Harmer has extensive experience in primary, complex, and revision hip and knee replacements. He is skilled in the direct anterior approach for total hip replacements as well as robotic and computer-assisted surgery.
Beyond his surgical practice, Dr. Harmer is passionate about global outreach, having participated in medical missions to Peru and Haiti. He is fluent in Spanish after living in Panama. Outside of work, he enjoys running, cycling, hiking, and above all, spending time with his wife, Laura, and their six children.
Dr. Harmer follows the philosophy of Dr. William J. Mayo: “The best interest of the patient is the only interest to be considered.” He finds great fulfillment in seeing the life-changing impact that joint replacement surgery has on his patients.
